Static vs. Dynamic QR Codes: What to Choose?

When generating a QR code, you'll encounter a choice between static and dynamic formats. Each has its advantages and is intended for a different purpose.

What is a Static QR Code?

A static code contains information encoded directly into the graphic pattern. If you scan a code with a URL, the phone reads it directly from the dots of the code. Pros: Works forever, requires no servers, is completely free. Cons: Once printed, the content cannot be changed. If the destination URL changes, the code stops working.

What is a Dynamic QR Code?

A dynamic code links to a short URL on a server, which then redirects the user to the final destination. Pros: You can change the destination at any time without replacing the code, and you can track scan statistics (count, location, time). Cons: Requires a functional service (server) to perform the redirection.

Which One to Choose?

For personal business cards, home Wi-Fi passwords, or one-time events, a **static code** is sufficient. For marketing campaigns, corporate materials, and anything printed in large quantities, choose a **dynamic code**.
