QR Codes in Marketing: Best Practices

QR codes are experiencing a renaissance. They are the bridge between the physical and digital worlds. But simply placing a code on a flyer isn't enough. How do you ensure people actually scan them?

1. Add a Call to Action (CTA)

Never use a QR code without context. Add a short text like 'Scan for 20% off' or 'View Menu'. People need to know what's waiting for them on the other side.

2. Optimize the Landing Page

Ensure the page the code links to is 100% mobile-responsive. Nothing discourages a customer more than having to zoom in on an unreadable website after scanning a code.

3. Placement is Key

QR codes on highway billboards are dangerous and ineffective. Place codes where people have the time and peace to scan – on restaurant tables, product packaging, business cards, or in shop windows.

4. Test Before Printing

This is the most important rule. Print a sample and test it with different phones and apps under various lighting conditions. What works on a monitor may not work on matte paper in the sun.
